Road bike route

This route winds between the sea of Rimini and the hills of Romagna through lush vineyards and ancient olive groves which extend between Sant’Arcangelo, Verucchio and the Republic of San Marino. There is no doubt about its elevation profile: this route is only suitable for trained cyclists, well accustomed to climbs. After the village of Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna, the road starts to climb for about 25 km and the first major climb is Verucchio, over 5 km with gradients up to 12%. The real challenge though is the climb to the historic centre of San Marino with slopes more than 18%. From that point, it is all downhill to the River Marano along the same route as the time trial stage of the 2019 Giro d’Italia where Richard Carapaz was able to seize his victory. The only difference: the professionals followed the route in the opposite direction – and there’s no need to add anything else.
